Why Go Gamma?

We asked these sisters why they went Gamma and they want to share their story with everyone. Their favorite picture within the sorority is next to each individual story.

"There are many reasons why I chose to become a Gamma. We are strong independent women who not only empower ourselves but empower each other, who have strong principals that we live by and have a strong sisterhood bond that is national but I chose to become a Gamma because I felt that I was welcomed and not judged. I also like to give back to the community and helping to raise money for breast cancer awareness or going out and doing a highway cleanup, Sigma Lambda Gamma has taught me to become a leader within my community  as well as who a real women of distinction is."

"I didnt't think that sororities were for me. I always thought that I would never fit in. A pink and purple table changed my whole college experience in the Spring of 2015. I found a group of ladies that have pushed me to be the best version of myself. I have been able to grow so much during my time with SLG. Throughout this sorority, we are able to strengthen each other and empower one another. My sisters and I have an unbreakable bond that no one can take away. These girls are my second family and I can count on them for anything. I, also, love getting to know all the other sisters nationwide. 'Hermanas Por Vida' truly does mean sisters for life."

"When I was choosing to go Greek I was looking for an organization that strived in academics and had a good sense of sisterhood. I was interested in going Gamma due to the principles that they strived for and uplifting the women in the sorority to do better. I wanted to be a Gamma because I didn't feel that had to be different to fit in or felt that I was being judged by others. I went Gamma to show that I can be a woman of distinction just like others before me and I can the best me I can be through this organization. SLG FOR LIFE!"

"I met a sister in one of my classes and when walking down the breezeway I was intrigued by the colors and she caught me looking. Nikki and Kristen called me over to talk about SLG and I immediately felt like I identified with the organization's values. As a first generation student felt that having a support system to excel academically, while still expressing my cultural beliefs AND learning about others played a crucial role to my success as a college student. SLG helped me find my strengths during college to outweigh disadvantages experienced by minority students. Sigma Lambda Gamma helped me find support to continue, while also aiding in an awesome college experience and life long friendships. I went Gamma because it was the best choice for me at TAMUCC, while a tremendously diverse sisterhood nation wide. Hermanas por vida."
